Why I Love Dance

ree

I have experienced a variety of movement disciplines since childhood, including karate, athletics, swimming, basketball, inline skating and dancing, to name a few. Movement is my second nature. I enjoy practising and exploring movement on a daily basis.

But when it comes to dance, it's on another level. It's like a direct connection to your soul, and to all the hidden parts of yourself that you rarely show others. Your inner child takes the lead and you experience pure joy and a connection with your creative self.

We just need to create space for this to happen. This can be in our own room, dancing to our favourite song, or in a room full of people, where we have the chance to be seen, and also to enjoy the uniqueness of others.

Honestly, if you want to get to know someone, take them dancing. You'll learn a lot about their energy, personality, and beauty.

When I teach, one of my goals is to help people feel relaxed so they can come out of their shells and be themselves. I take the lead and take the risk of being seen, and I encourage others to do the same. I am usually impressed by how many treasures I discover when people overcome their fear of being seen and show off their dancing. Witnessing someone in their element is one of the most fulfilling things I know. I think it enriches everyone who witnesses it.

As Amy McNee says in the title of her new book, 'We Need Your Art', I say, 'We Need Your Dance'. We need to witness your uniqueness, your special gifts and talents, and, most importantly, the connection with what brings you joy.

When was the last time you danced? Let me know in the comments.

With Love,

Jindriska
